Philosophy of Fun

Most people have grown up believing that the only way to achieve great results is by working hard (and not playing or having fun). What if that “bill of goods” just isn’t true?

I have learned from, worked with, and competed with many of the world’s best performers in a variety of fields. I’ve been studying optimal performance for more than a dozen years. It seems like the big secret is that the best results happen when people are totally engaged and having fun. Although “play” is almost a dirty word in many achievement settings, it is the key to success. Play is not the opposite of work; it is the state in which the best work is produced.

Creating Optimal Performance

I’m taking the bold stand that people should play and have more fun everywhere in their lives. Would it be all right with you if you laughed, smiled, and were energized while you exceeded anything you’ve ever done before? When we let go of our attachments, when we stop driving for results, we create great performance.

Letting out the secret…

Yes, anything worthwhile does take “work,” but top performers find joy in the sweat of getting to the top. I am convinced that we need to let the secret out.Can you imagine a top heart surgeon describing the moments before “going to work” on a patient as “The music is playing and I am juiced.”? Have you noticed that world-class athletes, dancers, and musicians make their “work” look effortless?

What would it be like for you to play full out in life? Are you ready to have more fun?

Consider Great Achievers…

People who achieve great results over time are highly passionate people who have fun at what they do. Tiger Woods loves to “play golf.” Michael Jordan loves to “play basketball.” They have risen to the highest levels of their “games” because they love what they do. When Tiger is “in the hunt” of a championship on the final round, or when MJ is in the seventh game of an NBA Final, they play at their best. Tiger Woods has a coach. Michael Jordan has a coach.
